Eco-Freindly Measures

In 2008, The Buttonwood Inn became certified by the New Hampshire Sustainable Lodging & Restaurant Program. Our goal is to provide you, our customer, with the best service, hospitality, and attention to detail possible, while preserving the natural beauty and healthy environment of the White Mountains of New Hampshire by continuing our efforts to be “green”. We hope that you will also join us for your benefit and that of future generations. Note that we continue to add more eco-friendly measures reducing our carbon footprint on the Earth.

Here are some of the “green” initiatives we’ve implemented so far:
Recycle bottles, cans, plastic, and paper, including from guest rooms
Use recycled paper when necessary
Print double-sided
Email documents as much as possible to reduce paper usage
LED night lights and decorative lights
Energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs
Outdoor solar LED lighting on the porches, back door area, and gardens
Motion sensors on outdoor lights
Automatic timer on outside light-turned off when Inn is empty
Ask guests to turn off lights, air conditioning, and fans when they leave the guest room
Turn off hot water, heat, and air conditioning in unoccupied guest room areas
Buy local produce, meats, maple syrup, and more to reduce dependence on long haul trucking
Use our garden produce and herbs for breakfast and baked treats
Propagate and grow native New Hampshire plants which require less watering and fertilizer
Provide our delicious deep-well water in a decanter instead of bottled water (required by New Hampshire to test it every year)
Use china, glassware, and cloth napkins
Decrease water usage with low-flow shower heads and faucets
Three-chamber body wash/shampoo/conditioner dispensers installed in bathroom showers using organic products, eliminating small bottle waste
Guest voluntary towel reuse
